Guardian ad LitemWhen children are involved in court cases, the judge may appoint an attorney to advocate for the children’s best interests. In a divorce or paternity matter, that advocate is called a Guardian ad Litem ("GAL"). A GAL's goal is to protect a child’s safety and feelings and ensure the child lives in a good, safe home. A GAL will generally conduct an investigation and write a report to the court. Casandra J. Nelson is a trained guardian ad litem for the Hamilton County GAL/CASA Program and is available for private and cap cases.
